11/25/2013: Dr. Stuart Banks from Charles Darwin Foundation and Dr. John Morrison from University of North Carolina - Wilmington visited our lab. They had a productive meeting with Drs. Xie and Liu.

07/18/2013: Dr. Xie attended the Planning Workshop for a World Climate Research Programme (WCRP)/Global Energy and Water Cycle Exchanges Project (GEWEX) Regional Hydroclimate Study on the Hydrology of the Lake Victorian Basin (HyVic), held at University of Reading, UK.


06/20/2013: Ms. Dianna Francisco joined our group to pursue her Ph.D. study.


06/18/2013: The manuscript "Numerical Study of the Effects of Wave-Induced Forcing on Dynamics in Ocean Mixed Layer" [Link] by Zengan Deng, Lian Xie, Ting Yu, Suixiang Shi, Jiye Jin, and Kejian Wu was published on Advances in Meteorology.


06/10/2013: Mr. Tao Gao, a visiting Ph.D. Student to our group, went back to Ocean University of China, pursuing his Ph.D study.

03/12/2012: Dr. Zong-Liang Yang, from Department of Geological Sciences, Jackson School of Geosciences, University of Texas at Austin, gave a talk "Land Surface Modeling: Achievements, Challenges, and Opportunities" in our Department Seminar Monday afternoon, March 12th. He also met with several faculty members including Drs. Xie and Liu in our group on Tuesday, March 13th.


02/25/2012: Dr. Xiaopei Lin, Vice-Director of Physical Oceanography Laboratory, College of Physical and Environmental Oceanography, Ocean University of China, visited NCSU/MEAS. During his four-day stay, Dr. Lin met with several faculties and their group members. He also gave us a talk entitled "The fast warming in the North Western Pacific Ocean in the past 30 years -- role of the Kuroshio" in a special department seminar.


02/11/2012: Dr. Changlong Guan, Dean of College of Physical and Environmental Oceanography, Ocean University of China, visited NCSU/MEAS. During his six-day visiting, Dr. Guan joined our group meeting and gave us a talk regarding sea surface waves especially rogue waves. He also had a meeting with our department head Dr. Walter Robinson discussing potential collabaration oppotunities. Besides, Dr. Guan had some research discussion/communication with some of our group members.


12/12/2011: Dr. Yeli Yuan, Member of Chinese Academy of Engineering, visited our department and had a group communication with Drs. Xie and He's research groups in Room 1132 Jordan Hall. Dr. Yuan is a leading expert on ocean surface waves and modeling from the First Institute of Oceanography (FIO), State Oceanic Administration of China. During the meeting, Dr. Yuan gave us a presentation entitled "On wave-induced ocean mixing -- sea wave-generated turbluence and sea wave mixing". Dr. Yuan also had a meeting with our department head Dr. Walter Robinson during his visiting. Ms. Yajuan Song, a Ph.D. student from FIO also joined Dr. Yuan's trip.


10/08/2011: The manuscript entitled "An investigation of the effects of wave state and sea spray on an idealized typhoon using an air-sea coupled modeling system" by Bin Liu, Changlong Guan, Lian Xie, and Dongliang Zhao was accepted by Advances in Atmospheric Sciences.


09/07/2011: A visiting Ph.D. Student, Mr. Rui Li, from Ocean University of China, joined our group.

08/05/2011: The manuscript entitled "A Scale-Selective Data Assimilation Approach to Improving Tropical Cyclone Track and Intensity Forecasts in a Limited-Area Model: A Case Study of Hurricane Felix (2007)" by Bin Liu and Lian Xie was accepted by Weather and Forecasting.


07/04-05/2011: Drs. Lian Xie and Bin Liu hosted the visit of Mr. WANG Jianchu, Director of Shanghai Marine Meteorological Center and the Shanghai Marine Meteorology delegation and discussed future cooperation on marine meteorology between CFDL and Shanghai Marine Meteorological Bureau.


06/16-21/2011: Dr. Lian Xie took a field trip to Kisumu, Kenya and conducted research on Lake Victoria. During his trip to Kenya, he also visited the University of Nairobi and presented a talk on "Air-sea interactions".


05/17-20/2011: Dr. Lian Xie visited University of Surrey, UK, and presented an invited talk entitled: "Coupling and merging climate system models" at the Surrey Workshop on Climate Change: Science and policy.
